Highest Finish: Quarter-finals 2010
Few football rivalries have developed as quickly on the world stage as the one between Ghana and the United States. Between 2006 and 2014, the two nations met in three consecutive World Cups, creating a memorable series of dramatic encounters.
It began in Germany in 2006, when Ghana defeated the United States 2–1 to advance from the group stage in the country’s first-ever World Cup appearance. Four years later, Ghana again won 2–1 in extra time, eliminating the Americans and becoming only the third African nation to reach a World Cup quarterfinal.
The United States finally gained revenge in Brazil in 2014 with its own 2–1 victory. Remarkably, all three World Cup meetings ended by the same scoreline.
More than a sporting contest, the rivalry connected two nations through a decade of unforgettable World Cup drama.
